Time is the most critical resource that you have.
Investing in yourself means intentionally spending time on activities that improve your value. These are the ways I invest in myself to ensure my personal, professional, and relational success.
Health
This is a big one. When I take care of my health, I can take care of others.
Therapy
I can’t vouch for therapy enough. Therapy challenges me to discover new passions, heal from trauma, challenge my mindset and spark action to explore who I want to be.
Talking with a therapist can help you figure out what is holding you back from being the dream version of yourself. It can give you the courage to start a business, find love or move across the country.
Therapy is one of the best investments you can make in yourself — but it’s also one of the most difficult ones to make.
Lagree, yoga, and barre classes
I quit going to the gym over a year ago. When I started walking daily and doing Lagree (a high-intensity form of reformer pilates), my body completely transformed by doing low-impact and high-intensity workouts.
After taking my first Lagree West class, I knew this would change my life. Not only does it burn SO well, but I saw results FAST. As fast as my first 3 classes. Lagree’s promise is to target those slow-twitch muscle fibres, which makes it difficult to plateau.
Consistently attending Lagree West for over 4 months, I can attest that this is the fittest and the best I’ve looked in my whole life. I became addicted to getting stronger and discovering my limits, physically and mentally. You’ll feel and use muscles in your body that you never knew existed!
I use Classpass to take my low-impact, high-intensity workouts. I discovered my love of Lagree, yoga, and barre, which are all low-impact and high-intensity workouts. Out of all three, Lagree is by far the most challenging, and addictive, and it never gets easier. Barre is fascinating because it combines ballet, pilates, and yoga, all in one 50-minute workout. I adore Yoga for the combination of breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness.
Classpass lets you book gyms, pilates, yoga, kickboxing, barre, boxing, spin, martial arts, spas, and salons in your area and worldwide for a monthly subscription! If you want to try Classpass, you can use my link to get 15 class credits & a free trial. I have the 80-credit-a-month plan, but you can start with a membership as low as 20-credits-a-month.
Superfood latte alternatives
I swapped out my lattes with delicious superfood alternatives that I now make at home!
Blume is a Vancouver-based, vegan, sugar-free, superfood latte-blend brand that I’ve been loving. All their superfood blends taste delicious and are easy to make, and I’ve already ordered five latte blends that I LOVE.
Out of all the five I’ve tried, my favourites are Pumpkin Spice, Cacao Turmeric, and Rose London Fog!
Want to try Blume? Get $10 off your Blume order using this link. You can also use the code YZOBEL15 to get 15% off your purchase. Your life is about to change. You’re welcome!
Professional and career advancement
Every year, I challenge myself to double my income from the previous year. Here is how I do it.
Learn new skills
The job market is rapidly changing, and it’s getting competitive. Though I run my own digital marketing business, I always make it a habit to take courses and learn new skill sets. As technology advances, many industries innovate and move fast.
My go-to course platform is Coursera. Fortune 500 companies & the top Universities all have courses that get you certified.
As a business owner, I invest my time in reading books on the topics of psychology, entrepreneurship, mindset, economics, and culture. There’s a huge difference between working on your business vs. working in your business.
I’m currently reading Your Next Five Moves: How to Master the Art of Business Strategy by Patrick Bet-David. I use Scribd to read and listen to my books. It’s the biggest library of unlimited ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, articles, and more. If you want to try Scribd, here is a link to try Scribd for free for 60 days! I’ve created a list of my favourite books for you to check out, organized by topic.
Use social media as leverage
Put yourself out there. Make yourself visible. Show your results. Talk about your interests, goals, lessons, and passions.
Creating a personal brand is powerful. It allows you to connect and relate to those who are looking for someone exactly like you. If you’re on TikTok, connect with me! I recently started becoming active there.
Relationships
Ultimately, life is about people. The quality of our lives has so much to do with our friendships.
New friendships
One conversation could change your whole life.
I’ve made it a habit to invest in networking events and meetups where other sushi-loving, pilates-going, business-oriented, ambitious young women are! Being surrounded by like-minded women inspires and challenges me to grow and learn. The abundance mindset is everything.
If you’re a boujee introverted girl that loves all of the above, like me, let’s be friends. ❤️ Don’t be shy, slide into my DMs! Women who invest in themselves seriously truly have the deepest and most authentic friendships. Who doesn’t want that? Extroverts are also welcome.
Investing in yourself ensures that your time is being spent on the right things, and also has a secondary benefit: it prevents you from wasting your time.
Not only will you be elevating your professional value, but you may also find that you have more energy to serve those around you and to grow closer to a higher power. Investing in yourself will yield a lifetime of benefits. All it takes is one small step at a time.
How do you invest in yourself?
Love,
